MountainStar is thrilled to announce Kara Tachikawa as our new Executive Director!

Almost 20 years ago, Tim Rusk, executive director, had a job interview with a panel of 25 community members who were looking for someone to take MountainStar from its launch in April 2001 to the next level. Today MountainStar serves over 300 kids and their families annually in 5 communities spanning 3 counties. We are sad to see Tim go but MountainStar is excited for the future of the organization with new leadership.

Bend-based business stand-out Webfoot Painting hosted its seventh annual Carving For Kids event to benefit MountainStar Family Relief Nursery on Saturday, October 22 at Newport Avenue Market in Bend. Gavin Hepp and Travis Ulrich, co-owners of Webfoot, set a lofty goal to raise $20,000 to support MountainStar’s work preventing child abuse, which would best last year’s record of $16,400 raised.
