Presentation Featuring International Expert, Dr. Desmond Runyan!

Our community is fortunate to have an expert of Dr. Runyan's caliber coming to share his perspective after more than 30 years of research in child abuse prevention. The support garnered through a Walk in a Child's Shoes will help MountainStar provide essential services for local children and families. We are seeking guests who wish to support our mission by contributing financially, becoming a volunteer, or advocating for our cause. If you know of someone who would be interested in getting involved, please encourage them to sign up soon as spots for this event are limited.

Dr. Desmond Runyan is the Executive Director of the Kempe Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect at the Children's Hospital of Colorado. Dr. Runyan has researched child abuse for over 30 years while maintaining a clinical practice evaluating possible child abuse victims and as a general pediatrician at the University of North Carolina. He is also a clinical scholar with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, our nation's largest foundation focused on health.

Dr. Runyan's research has addressed the identification and consequences of child abuse and neglect. In addition to domestic research, Dr. Runyan has worked with medical school faculty in Egypt, India, the Philippines, Brazil, and Chile to increase child abuse knowledge among medical schools internationally. He has worked with ISPCAN, WHO, and UNICEF to study child abuse epidemiology. In collaboration with 120 other scientists from 40 countries, he helped develop a new set of instruments to measure child abuse and neglect.
