Carving For Kids Raises $16,000 for MountainStar

Webfoot Painting held its sixth annual Carving For Kids event to benefit MountainStar Family Relief Nursery on Saturday, October 24 at Newport Avenue Market in Bend. This year Gavin Hepp and Travis Ulrich, co-owners of Webfoot, set a lofty goal to raise $15,000 in support of MountainStar’s mission to prevent child abuse, which would best last year’s record of $12,000 raised.

Through their diligent efforts to carve and sell over 200 pumpkins in three days, the Webfoot Painting crew raised more than $16,000!

MountainStar is incredibly grateful for all the effort and enthusiasm put in to Carving For Kids. Executive Director Tim Rusk said, “It is amazing to see a local business commit so strongly to supporting community causes. We’re so glad the Webfoot team keeps building on this terrific event, raising more and more funds for our programs!”

Community members enjoyed searching for unique pre-carved pumpkins, as well as carving their own jack-o-lanterns. Businesses who pre-ordered custom logo pumpkins picked those up and are now displaying them all around Bend. Look for them on the counters of these local businesses:

About MountainStar Family Relief Nursery
MountainStar Family Relief Nursery’s mission is to prevent child abuse by working with families living in crisis in Deschutes, Jefferson, and Crook counties. The households served have an average of 18 risk factors for child abuse and neglect, including poverty, homelessness, mental health issues, domestic violence, and substance abuse. MountainStar provides crisis intervention and nationally-accredited therapeutic classes for babies and toddlers, as well as other services aimed at strengthening these vulnerable families. Young children represent half of the victims of child abuse in Oregon and need someone to intervene on their behalf when they are at such a critical stage of development. Relief Nurseries have documented success in reducing family risk factors for child abuse and neglect, improving family functioning and self-sufficiency, and reducing foster care utilization.
